MATT & SHANNON | A WEDDING AT THE EAGLE RIDGE ESTATE

We were very lucky to be part of Matt & Shannon's special day. There is something about these two that just makes us feel really "kilig". But before we go on about Matt and Shannon, let me share with you our experience with the their family, the Shorts.

I arrived in Tauranga the day before their wedding. It was such a nice and sunny morning – a perfect day for a wedding rehearsal at the Eagle Ridge Estate. After parking my car, I went ahead to look for Matt and Shannon. I spotted the bridal party at the estate garden where the ceremony had taken place. When I was about to greet the couple, Julie who was Matt’s mum greeted me first with a big hug. I felt so welcomed as if I was part of their family.

The first time I met the Shorts was back in 2016 in Russell, Bay of Islands at Aidan and Hana’s wedding. I met them again last April 2018 in Auckland during Marea and David’s wedding. I met the family once again but this time in Tauranga. It was so surreal to have seen familiar faces, and there was an overwhelming feeling of gladness inside of me after seeing that everyone was well and happy. The next morning, now with our camera gear, we went back to Eagle Ridge Estate and filmed one of the most beautiful weddings of 2018.

GARTH & LISA | A WEDDING AT GOLDIE ESTATE WAIHEKE

“Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That’s relativity.” - Albert Einstein

RONALD & PRINCESS | A WEDDING AT GRACEHILL VINEYARD ESTATE

What sets a Filipino romance apart from the typical romance we generally know is the traditional practise of ‘ligawan’ or in the closest English term, courthsip. Back in the days, men who like a woman would often sing outside the woman’s room accompanied by a guitar, professing his love for her. They will even do hard tasks for the girl’s parents to prove that he can take care of their daughter. This traditional way of asking for a girl’s heart is still practised by some, but the most common way Filipino millennials do it is by asking the girl for a date and giving her gifts. Romantic as it may sound, Filipinos are also a bunch of shy people especially when confessing to the person they like. This was what Ronald felt when he laid eyes on Princess, entranced by her beauty. Thankfully, that did not stop him from courting Princess. He just had to ask a friend to help him out winks. Thanks to that friend (and Ronald’s own efforts of course), the love that they found in their university campus had led them to a wedding filled with so many smiling faces.

An unsuspecting love story made perfectly from the get-go. Megan and Campbell met on their mutual friend’s wedding in December 2013. Little did they know their own happy ever after awaits there. But, this is not just your typical love story. Perhaps one of the most recognised traditions in the world is when two people like each other, the guy should make the first move. Megan broke that tradition when she boldly made the first move on Campbell on the wedding reception.

DOMINIC & DOROTHY | A WEDDING AT GRACEHILL VINEYARD ESTATE

The first time we met Dominic and Dorothy it was obvious that they are truly in love. The way they talk and treat each other made us feel like we were watching a scene from an Asian love story. We can just feel their affection for each other. From the start we understood it is their dream to have a perfect wedding day, a day to share with their family and friends who were flying in to Auckland from overseas. The wedding was meticulously planned and everyone knew their roles and timings. They were very organised, they wanted a perfect garden wedding. Just as the ceremony was about to begin and everyone was settled in their seats, the unexpected happened—it rained. The rain drove everyone indoors, away from the garden. As wedding filmmakers, it is our duty to be observant during the wedding day and we noticed guests were starting to worry about everything—the weather, the ceremony, the rest of the day. Naturally, we expected the bride and groom to worry the most. But out of all the people on that day, these two never showed any sign of anxiousness, not even the slightest hint of stress. We saw in their eyes that the rain didn’t matter, that to them what mattered most is they’re marrying each other on that day. And so everyone took their place with Dominic standing firm, the music played and no one could have walked down the aisle of that cramped little room as elegantly as Dorothy. It was a very beautiful wedding and no amount of rain could have stopped it.
